There are so many skills required to be a Product Manager (can read in pervious article here).

People are an unpredictable variable and I try to at least mitigate that by using a framework to identify their main characteristics and values that you should validate through time.

The 16 Personalities

There is a study and theory that assigns people into 16 different personalities (more details). Those 16 personalities are divided into 4 groups: Analysts, Diplomats, Sentinels and Explorers.

Personality Types

There is a full description for each personality on the 16 Personalities Website. …

It has been said that coronavirus accelerated many trends (especially becoming more digital) and this is no different in the Gaming Industry.

Managing a team remotely

Some people have been asking: “How is it to manage a team remotely? Does the team still work as hard/with the same commitment? Are you as effective?”

Short Answer: Yes! It works. I will summarize a few topics:

  • Team
  • Routine
  • Communication

Gerenciando um time remotamente

Sim! Funciona.

Vou resumir alguns tópicos:

  • Time
  • Rituais
  • Comunicação

1 - Time

Contrate as melhores pessoas, mantenha as melhores!

The PM career can vary between different companies and markets. However, a lot of the skills listed here are applicable to any company or market. In our case we are an Edtech platform that helps more than 20M students in Brazil.

At Passei Direto it was necessary to create a more structured career path from the moment we started to grow our team.
Questions we received from PMs included:

  • What skills do I need?
  • What is the difference between a PM and a Senior PM?
  • Why I am not a Senior instead of an Associate? What skills am I missing?

I started my career studying Electrical Engineering having no idea what product Management was. What I discovered during my studies is that I didn’t enjoy the technical part of my job to be doing it for my whole life.

What I enjoyed was the business part where I could apply my analytical skills to solve problems.

For my first internship I looked for something where I could apply my analytical skills. In SC Johnson I had the opportunity to improve my analytical skills through market analysis such as: market share, stocks, average price, product distribution, sales, etc.

In Passei Direto we decided to rebuild all we have created so far. That was the Refactoring Project, which made it possible to expand our market.

During this 6 month project we had some rituals and leanings that helped us succeed that might be useful if you’re going to have a long project.

1. Organization

Timeline (Project Schedule)

It is really hard to know the project’s total duration in the beginning. The schedule starts to be more accurate once the project really starts.

However, we need to have an estimate to be able to create a timeline, organize tasks, and provide a…

How to rise and shine

Some people ask what a product manager really does, and I’ve seen a lot of articles talking about that. Here I would like to give my perspective on this topic.

I don’t have a fixed routine per se. However, there are some weekly and daily activities/tasks that I regularly have in my experience as a Product Manager.

I like to start my day early because I can dedicate this time to tasks that require concentration and minimal disruption. Usually a product manager interacts a lot with his team, so this time is dedicated to solo work.

I arrive at the…
